User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686) AppleWebKit/537.11 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/23.0.1271.64 Safari/537.11 Steps to reproduce: Particularly javascript code. If I open an existing HTML file containing javascript blocks, such as Google Adsense ads, it insists on rewriting them in a way that causes them to no longer work. I enjoy using a WYSIWYG HTML editor to maintain files, and Seamonkey Composer is better than most for just writing and editing a lot of content, but for the javascript segments I keep having to save the files, then reopen them in Quanta Plus (which doesn't support WYSIWYG editing as well) to correct the changes Composer made, before uploading them. Quanta Plus is also better than Composer at interpreting HTML and Javascript in preview mode. I too often have to open a file written using Composer in Quanta Plus to see what it will look like. I would like to be able to do everything in Composer without having to switch to Quanta Plus (or else have Quanta Plus do everything Composer does better). Some examples of files for which this is a problem: http://constitution.org/cons/rule_law.html http://constitution.org/cons/con_design.html Is there, or can someone provide, a setting for Composer to have it just leave scripts alone that it may find? Actual results: Scripts fail to work when viewed in a browser (including Seamonkey and Composer). Expected results: Scripts should have worked (displayed) the same way they did before starting to edit with Composer.
Severity: normal → major
Component: General → Composer
The scripts fail when the file is first loaded into Composer, so one suspects the re-write is occurring on load rather than just on save.
A first quick test seems to underpin reporter's suspect. @reporter: Please be some more precise due to <https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/QA/Bug_writing_guidelines> and reduce the report to 1 particular problem what you should describe very precise with in formation * in souce code in Browser line starting with "yxcvbnm," shows string "asdfghjkl", * In Html Source in Composer in line starting with "yxcvbnm," string "asdfghjkl" is missing or similar

Summary: Composer breaks pre-existing scripts upon save → Breaks pre-existing scripts when open
Whatever reporter is talking about. Scripts of mentioned sample pages (for example "Page Menu Bar 'Home - Constitution - Law & History - Issues - Site - More'" already does not work for me with a local copy of that page on my HDD. So ist 's completly unclear what reporter's problem might be. Never confirmed by a second user, no response, so I close this one for now. @Reporter: Please feel free to reopen this Bug if you still can reproduce the problem with a current SeaMonkey version and a current OS and if you can contribute a step by step instruction how other users can reproduce the problem reliably due to <https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/QA/Bug_writing_guidelines> (containing every key press and every mouse click).
