User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:17.0) Gecko/17.0 Firefox/17.0
Build ID: 20121119183901

Steps to reproduce:

Sorry if this is already covered - I could not find it. Just using Google page....

Actual results:

Using Google if you type something in the search bar (Google bar not firefox bar) a drop down of suggestions appears as usual. If I abandon the search and click elsewhere on the page this list stays on screen, obscuring the top of the page. This was not the case I am sure in earlier versions of Firefox, only since v17. Pressing esc does remove the list but clicking outside the list used to remove it. The attached shot shows a typical drop-down. It stays resolutely there on screen and annoyingly won't go away.

Expected results:

If I abandon the search and click something else the drop-down list should disappear.

Please start Firefox in the safemode ( http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode ) and test again.

Please try Firefox 18.

I mean Firefox 18 works perfectly. I didn't try safe mode.
I am so sorry - I have to report it's not consistent. It just came back. The only way I can get rid of the list is to select one item. But then it went away again and worked ok. It may depend on the number in the list. I will try another computer with v18.

It's the behavior of the Google page itself, the drop-down list doesn't disappear if you click outside.
Same behavior with old versions of Firefox (like FF8) or IE9.

Not a browser issue.

Gosh, you are right. I just never noticed it before. Some sort of communication between the page and google. Coincided with me installing firefox 17. It's the same with IE and even with Chrome. clicking outside the list sometimes removes the list but sometimes does not, or else takes a few seconds.
