User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:17.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/17.0
Build ID: 20121128204232

Steps to reproduce:

Update to Thunderbird 17.0

Actual results:

With the update my folder of the Umlaut-E-Mail-Address has vanished and cannot be seen in the main window of thunderbird. Therefore I can't see my old mails and cannot send new mails from this account.
In the settings of the e-mail-folders the name of the folder with the umlaut (Ü) also cannot be seen, but the settings are still there (see screenshot in the appending file)
Is there anything in tools->error console?
There are some warning and very often the following error:

Zeitstempel: 05.12.2012 16:01:07
Fehler: NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIMsgFolder.server]
Quelldatei: resource:///modules/folderUtils.jsm
Zeile: 62
OK, I tried changing one of my test accounts to contain the umlaut character. I could not see any problem. Attaching a screenshot, the account name and also a folder name could contain ü just fine and also the Account manager shows it fine. This was on the experimental TB20, on Win XP (SK) using EN version of Thunderbird. See the attached screenshot of mine.

Also please use proper names of the objects in the display. I think it should be Account = Konto, and Folder = Ordner. In your screenshot you show only the account name is empty. But in your report you call something 'folder' so I am not sure if you have account or a folder with the umlaut character. That is why I tried to change both in my screenshot.

Aryx, if you use the DE version of TB can you check this out?

You have already posted this once. Is your new comment lost somewhere?

Sorry about my wording - yes you are right, Account = Konto and Folder = Ordner.

I have an e-mail-account with umlaut for more than two years and I managed this account in the past within TB. And all went fine until I updated to TB 17.0.
With folder I ment the main-window where the different mail-accounts are displayed. And I can´t see this mail-account on the main window (folder because there are subfolders in this mail-account on the main-window).
@ag_jet:
1. Do you know in which Thunderbird version the account has been added (or when)?
2. Is the "ü" left or right of the "@" in the mail address?

@aceman:
First, I don't think non-ASCII characters are yet supported in mail addresses in Thunderbird 17, the new (existing) mail account wizard shows an exclamation mark when I try to create an account in Thunderbird 16 with the account name and mail address "gemüse@kaiser.com" or "käse@koenig.com" (tried one as pop, the other as imap).
In Thunderbird 16, I see:
Fehler: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIMsgFolder.getStringProperty]
Quelldatei: chrome://messenger/content/folderPane.js
Zeile: 2436

The accounts are still shown after upgrading to Thunderbird 16 (system: Windows XP SP 32 bit).

CCing Mnyromyr for clarification what is currently supported.

OK, if you can still access the account settings of that problem account, look into Server settings -> Local directory field. See if the path is valid and use the system file manager to see the contents of this directory (filesystem folder).
Can you tell us the name of this directory (the last component of it, which should be the first server name you even used for this mail account). E.g. if it looks like D:\ApplicationData\thunderbird\Profiles\34523534.default\Mail\gmail.com, then tell us the 'Mail\gmail.com' part (if the server name is not secret).
Does it also contain the umlaut? And are all the files (representing the folders with the messages) still there?

Does your server name contain that character? Or your username? Or did you just name the account in this way?

Aryx, I have just landed the patch to disallow non-ASCII characters in the server name (for now). But we do not check user name.
@aryx:
ad 1) I added this account approx 2 years ago I have a corresponding .msf-File dated Oct. 2010.
ad 2) the "ü" is right of the @

@aceman:
The name of this directory: C:\Users\AG\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\ci6k5iqz.default\ImapMail\xn--grnewald-75a.XXXX (I xxx-ed the part after the dot).
The files are still there (the newest is the inbox.msf from the 01.12.2012)
The user name is without umlaut (as you can see from the directory name), the same should be for the server name.
Therefor I believe - but I don´t know - that only the account is with the umlaut.

Here some more information from "Informationen zur Fehlerbehebung" (information for error handling): account6(imap) imap.1und1.de:993 SSL/TLSPasswort, normalsmtp.1und1.de:587STARTTLSPasswort, normaltrue
This xn--grnewald-75a also looks like punycode encoded non-ASCII character...

So you say that the server name does not contain umlaut (it is imap.1und1.de) but your email address does? Or only the account name does?
the e-mail-address ist with umlaut "ü"
Component: Untriaged → Account Manager
Was this solved in recent TB versions? If not, try to rename the Account temporarily. IF you click the empty row in account settings, the account name seems to be shown correctly on the right panel. Rename it to something safe (no accents), then close the window. Then go to Account settings again and try renaming to the umlauted word again.
