This wont be a hard change, however as the filmstrip is not a grid UI I am not certain it applies here

Currently the photos zoom in and out from the film strip in which they are previewed from, since the film strip can appear from any side of the phone and is generally hidden. I think as many hints as to where these photos can be previewed from is helpful and having them slide in from the side would be confusing.

I'm fine with the transition documented by Victoria. I take the point re: wanting to tie the opening of the photo to the thumbnail that has been tapped, but the current animation looks a bit rough, and is out of step with our transitions in other apps. To your point about the film strip appearing from any side... it only drops from the top of the screen in the situations I've seen.

These specs are missing, and camera has long since been refactored. I'm closing this as wofksforme, but please reopen and attach specs if it's really still an issue with the new camera designs.
