Steps to reproduce: - subscribe to any Russian news group (for example, fido7.russian.z1 from news.fido7.ru) - download messages headers - look at the messages list window Additional info: - Mozilla version is 0.9 completed May 7, 2001 - default system locale is Russian, current user system locale is Russian - also I've seen this bug on Windows NT 4.0 SP6 and Linux (kernel 2.4.4) as well

View->Folder Character Coding is used for displaying message headers. Try setting that to KOI8-R for your folders. It should work in 0.9 However Folder Character Coding is broken on the latest nightly builds, see bug 81786

Thanks, I was asking marina for a help in fact. Anyway, attaching a screen shot would help identifying the problem.
Alexey: bug # 81786 prevents you to set Folder charset (or change it), so if you subscribe to the russian newsgroup you won't be able to see headers in the thread displayed correctly but if you already have a russian folder the you won't have this problem.I have a russian newsgroup : relcom.cinema and the folder charset is KOI8-R, i have no problem seeing headers. If you are talking about "not being able to change the folder encoding to russian koi8-r" then it is a dup of 81786. Please clarify the issue.

Lesha, what happens if you set folder character encoding to KOI8-R, not User Defined or UTF? It used to work absolutely fine for me in Mozilla-0.9, until bug 81786 made it impossible to set character encoding to KOI8-R in recent builds.

Yes, it looks like I've seen the duplicate of #81786: I do see this bug on today's build and everything works fine on Mozilla 0.9 release. I was surprised that I need to set encoding in the message list separatelly (View->Folder Character Coding ). On the version I used before (0.8?) I set encoding only once (View->Character Coding) and it works in both message list and messages itself. I am sorry for confusion.

let's mark this one as a dup of 81786 and when the fix will be checked in, please see if it fixes your problem and if it doesn't reopen the bug *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 81786 ***
