One of the requirements for Boot to Gecko development and testing (as part of the smoketests, even) is ActiveSync (https://wiki.mozilla.org/Gaia/Email/ActiveSync for a bunch more info).
While working on automating our Gaia UI Tests (https://github.com/mozilla/gaia-ui-tests), and in talking with developers, we've both realized that it'd be best if we could have a shared, maintained ActiveSync-enabled mail instance [1] to test against.
How can we help make this happen?
[1] I've heard that http://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Mobile_Device_Setup isn't working on our corporate Zimbra instance -- :squib, :asuth?

Personally, I'd prefer an actual Exchange installation, since that's what we're targeting (in addition to Hotmail). Zimbra would be ok, but not ideal, since the plan is to use IMAP for Zimbra in the real world. Having an Exchange installation to test against would ensure that we're not relying on bugs in Zimbra (or neglecting bugs in Exchange).

That's news to us, if so. People need to report these issues when they run into them. Zimbra does indeed implement this, and it should work, in theory. I was using it at one point to get calendar on my phone before I got the direct caldav client on it.
There is something to be said for using the real thing to test with in order to have the "right set of bugs" in play, but that said, setting up a real Exchange server is not trivial. We looked into it back when we were having Zimbra issues in December, and decided it wasn't worth the effort because we'd have to hire additional people to manage it, didn't have in-house expertise for it, etc.(In

Yes, setting up Exchange sounds like a lot of work. My proposal on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=808716#c5 was for us to cough up $4/month/account for hosted exchange accounts like MS's "Exchange Online".

I suspect going that route could probably just be done from the development budget instead of going through IT, but probably best to get mrz to sign off on it just in case.

I'm fine with this. I'm not sure if there's any particular OpSec review since it's such a low dollar amount and just for testing.
Desktop should handle the payment/account setup and share credentials.

Hi Stephen - Do you know about how many accounts you would need to start off with? Also - is there a specific version of Exchange you want to test with? Or did you want to test with multiple versions? Also - do you know if there's a domain that has been already purchased for this?

We don't need to review this since this is for testing only.

I'll want a test account for testing calendar importing with an exchange account.

I would like to request a test account for B2G testing as well.

Lets get 10 exchange accounts for testing. i recommend something like
qa-b2g_1@domain.com, qa-b2g_2@domain.com, qa-b2g_3@domain.com, etc...

Hi - I'll work on getting the accounts setup as soon as I can. I'm going to suggest we maybe do 20 accounts. 10 on the most current version. And 10 on the past version if possible. But I'll update the bug after I find out the options.

Hi
It's taking way to long to actually talk to someone at Microsoft who can answer my questions. Is it ok if I just get 10 test accounts - they will be mozuser1-10@onmicrosoft.com?
I think that will be faster.

Sorry for the delay, Jenn -- let's go ahead with this, since we've all waited on each other + MS for too long now :-)
(Thanks for your patience!)

Hi Stephen -
The accounts are being created now. I'll email you the logins and passwords directly.

Can we archive the credentials somewhere on the MoCo intranet and use a table for simple usage tracking? It would be handy for we developers to be able to get at these accounts too.

Yep, and my apologies for the delay -- they're up, now, at https://intranet.mozilla.org/QA#Test_Accounts (please don't change the temp password yet -- I want the core QA team to decide on a common pattern for the permanent one).
But I think you should feel free to use them, now.

Currently all of the ActiveSync accounts are in use and six more have been requested for newer nodes.
