827154 - Firefox doesn't save Sync passwort correctly (Umlauts) due to encoding of Saved Passwords (I think it currently is ANSI)

Steps to reproduce:

I created a Firefox Sync Account and used a Password with German Umlauts. 


Actual results:

While Firefox was running after the creation of the Account there were no problems. But after I restarted Firefox, Firefox was unable to connect to Sync / Weave and I needed to reenter my Passphrase. After that, Firefox Sync works flawlessly until I restart Firefox.

I think the problem is that the Encoding in which Firefox currently saves Passwords doesnt allow Umlauts. After the restart of Firefox, there was a saved Password for Sync in the Password Manager, but the Umlauts were shown incorrectly (e.g. Ü got to something consisting of 2 Characters). If I use another password (without Umlauts) Sync works flawlessly, also after a restart of Firefox. I do not know if this is a general Problem or if it only happens in combination with Sync.


Expected results:

Firefox should have logged on to Sync / Weave flawlessly.

FxA-based ("New") Sync doesn't store the raw password, so that should no longer be a problem...but the login manager supporting non-ASCII characters in passwords sounds like a separate issue. Matt, does that sound familiar to you?

No, I don't recall seeing this issue before. I can't reproduce this issue with a regular login form. I was able to save a username and password with an umlaut. The management UI showed both fine and both were filled back into the site fine. Closing until we get more reports or hints.
