User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:20.0) Gecko/20130111 Firefox/20.0
Build ID: 20130111042017

Steps to reproduce:

If Java is disabled in Chrome or Safari, then plugins.m.o still shows the plugin in the list. This should be explained to the user or fixed. Maybe also explain to the user what's going on in IE. I'm using WinXP.

Actual results:

Chrome: By default, Java requires permission from a security bar at the top of the page, "Java needs your permission to run." The JVM plugins appear in the list. See also Settings / Advanced Settings / Privacy / Content settings / Unsandboxed plug-in access.

Safari: With Java disabled, no browser warning shown, in contrast to Chrome. The JVM plugins appear in the list. See: Edit / Preferences / Security.

IE8: With Java disabled, the JVM plugins do not appear in the list. A security bar asks permission to run "wsdetect.dll" from Oracle. See: Tools / Manage Add-ons / Toolbars and Extensions.

Expected results:

Explain or fix.

This is different from Bug 790008 which is about the "Missing Java?" scare box, which when the user has disabled Java, incorrectly says "For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java."

Thanks for plugincheck.m.o., by the way, it is one of the most useful sites I visit.
