When you select: "Bugzilla @ mozilla.org" (why are there spaces?) The search tab seems to basically search for open bugs by assigned. Probably a more liberal search, like what is used on the bugzilla.mozilla.org homepage is needed.
asa, Would mozilla rather have the search be by name or by summery? I'll change it accordingly.

matt, the quicksearch on the front page at b.m.o does this query http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED&field0-0-0=product&type0-0-0=substring&value0-0-0=xxxx&field0-0-1=component&type0-0-1=substring&value0-0-1=xxxx&field0-0-2=short_desc&type0-0-2=substring&value0-0-2=xxxx&field0-0-3=status_whiteboard&type0-0-3=substring&value0-0-3=xxxx where the xxxx is the string I entered in the search. It would be very cool if this sidebar search could do the same (or a similar) thing.
nav triage team: Not a mozilla0.9.4 stopper, marking p3 and mozilla1.0.1, but if you get a fix in earlier.... ;-)

This seems like it would be a simple fix with just a few changes to the bugzilla.src file. Is this true? or would something have to be done on the server end?

Well, i've answered my own question. Attached is a new bugzilla.src file. I can't make diffs since I don't have a build system, but basically the only things changed are the email lines are removed and replaced with the fields used in Asa's query. I used all words as substrings instead of straight substrings so people can type in multiple words. It is still "all words" though and not "any words" like the bugzilla front page. I also didn't know whether we could use javascript. (Is there a doc writeup on the format for search engines?) So if you type in a bug number it doesn't go there directly, and there is also no way that I can tell to allow the user to change the settings from "all" to "any" or any of the other slew of settings available to us. Its a start though
Thanks We can't use js so we can't do a find by bug number and search terms.

would it be possible to get this checked in? It fixes the main problem with the bugzilla sidebar, and would definately be a good temporary fix....
