We'd like to build mozilla-central indexes for DXR on http://ci.mozilla.org/. Right now that infrastructure is owned by RelEng (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=731256). There is some churn in the indexing code and we'd like to move index generation into our build process to have better control over it. This will free releng from having to maintain the existing build servers.
One problem with this approach is that building mozilla-central (or any other tree) by itself is a compute-intensive job and has a non-static build environment. Another issue I see is that, in the distant future, we probably need to have slaves on multiple platforms (Linux, OS X, Windows), and I think the current release engineering setup is probably a better match for that goal.
jcranmer: Can you say more about what you mean by "non-static"?
The build requirements change from time to time.
After talking with Shyam and Solarce in the parent bug it looks like we're heading in a different direction.
