User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:17.0) Gecko/17.0 Firefox/17.0 Build ID: 20120817040201 Steps to reproduce: From Left hand panel with treed display of mailboxes, with highlighted mailbox of 'inbox' on WinXP with 800x600 display, get either a) New Window Top row Mostly obscured or b) Bottom Row Mostly Obscured so you cannot click 'Search' at bottom right. Actual results: Search opens a NEW window, but its default (When opened in a Screen Reduced Size[Not Maximized]) open to having either a chunk of the top missing, or a chunk off the bottom obscured by the Windows Lower Task bar. Expected results: The Screenshould check the pixel Height that has available andsubtract 25 IF the Windows Task Bar is active. Else open the window to the last stored setting, or have the default as a configurable Size Value in advanced COnfiguration
Same Process, HighlightTree,Inbox, Rich Click; select 'Search Messages'; New Window Opens; Search Window falls to Default Start Setting approx 700x600. Setting Window to Maximized, does not hold setting. Resetting Window Size by using right click Size, CursorKey Down, then 2 clicks Up, initially sets screen within visible area, but next Start of program, all is forgotten. No Persistance of window Size from session to session. (Using 17.0.2) Release Channel. Copy of BuildID: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:17.0) Gecko/20130107 Thunderbird/17.0.2 ID:20130107124236
hmm, no persistence if resized?
The search window has persistence. When you make the window smaller it saves this size, also after restart. If not, try to rename localstore.rdf when TB is closed. Renaming this means you reset TB's views (window positions/dimensions, toolbar customizing etc.) to initial settings. TB will then create a new file with this name. If this doesn't solve your problem, you can rename the file again to the initial name and all is like before.
In C:\Users\[Computer.user]\Mozilla\Appdata\Local\....\{localstore.rdf} when TB is shut down is non-existant. In C:\Users\..AppData...\ is file 'removed-files' from 'MaintenanceService_Installer' Utility? that includes 'defaults/profile/US/localstore.rdf' with a date modified of 2012-09-07 and a date created of 2013-02-19 (windows7_Home_Premiun_ x64_dualcore YYYY-MM-DD), this indicates that on 2013-02-19 was an upgrade pack installed that removed 'localstore.rdf'. Unknown where to rename 'localstore.rdr' from/to. -R
(In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk) from comment #2) > hmm, no persistence if resized? No persistance after resize, either by shutdown or Logout. Does it happen also in safe mode? see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode

Summary: Start Search New Window larger than 800x560 screen → Advanced Search window larger than 800x560 screen
When Launching into Thunderbird in safe mode, main screen is smaller than full screen (windowed), and Search screen also is windowed, with search bar field shrunk to an appropriate length, but when run in 'normal' mode, it reverts to huge. Profile is retained in ''C:\Appdata\Roaming\.......'', that is manipulated by windows in 'User Mode', so that there are two profile folders, 1 for admin purposes in admin folder, and 1 for User [username], in C:\Users\[UserName]\Appdata
in Safe-mode screen sizes return to normal.
Flags: needinfo?(richard416282)
Still does it after update to version 38.6 According to this: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Files_and_folders_in_the_profile_-_Thunderbird , and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/196058 ; then localstore.rdf is now stored as 'xulstore, json' in path C:\Users\[Username]\Appdata\.....\profile making a copy before I damage anything.....
Version: 24 Branch → 38 Branch
In safe mode it's using the default dimensions. The search window memorizes the last dimensions and position of it. Try to shrink the window by shrinking it to your desires with the mouse at the edges and moving it with the titlebar. Then close TB and reopen it. Is the size the one you want now?
Richard? (might be helpful ifyou enable the needinfo setting in bugzilla) (In reply to Richard Marti (:Paenglab) from comment #12) > In safe mode it's using the default dimensions. > > The search window memorizes the last dimensions and position of it.
