We have experienced timeouts on the socket if you register specific topics for Pulse where you get notifications kinda rarely. To avoid that and to keep the channel alive we should always register for heartbeats internally.

It's necessary for our Mozmill CI system where we only operate on daily and release builds of Firefox.
