Steps to reproduce:
1.go into marketplace;
2.Click GAME or other Categories;
3.in the list, tap filter;
4.tap "popularity" or "Rating" and then apply.

Expected results:
1.the setting takes effect and return to the previous page.

Actual results:
when we select "rating" and apply, the apps in list are not sorted by rating, it can see the attachment.

Note - we typically don't block on marketplace entities in terms of tef - they track things entirely different than how we track in b2g.

I'll cc Maria for input here though.

Hi Jason, Michael,

Sorry, but not sure if I've understood properly. This is an issue with market app? or an issue with the market itself (i.e. server side)?

I think this seems important.

Thx!
David
I'm not sure why this is listed as UI wanted. If the sorting isn't working that is a developer bug. If the sorting IS working however and it's still not enough feedback to see the order change we should consider adding an activity indicator when the user hits "apply" to indicate that the app is doing something.

I don't know much about flags but this is not important enough to be a blocker.

Hi all,
The issue is that the sorting is NOT working. After making the filtering for "Rating" and clicking on "Apply" you can perfectly see the activity indicator (showing that the app is doing something) but once it finished, the results page on the market is changed but not properly (according to the "ratings" that we see on each app).

The issue could be:
- either due to an issue in the market app (handset side) when sending the request to the server for re-arranging apps as per the "ratings" (Maybe the request is incorrectly done)
- or due to an issue in the server side of the market (maybe the sorting algorithm is not totally correct)

From ZTE perspective, this kind of issues related with markeplace user experience are very important.

Shall we nominate it?

Thx.,
Juan.

Is this part of the build? Or does this logic sits on market host?

The logic sits on the market host. So none of the issues cited here are on b2g gaia & gecko side.

Note - We typically haven't tracked marketplace issues with tef, as they have an entirely different tracking mechanisms they follow.

OK, so let's not mark it as tef+. What is that different mechanism? I think this is issue must be fixed before we hit the market and we would like to track it.

Let me send your question over to the marketplace master, Mr. Wil Clouser.

According to the current data, the screenshot would be wrong, but when following the steps to reproduce, the apps are in the correct order now (see raw data below).

Our ratings being out of order is not an uncommon assumption - particularly when dealing with items with very few ratings. We show an average rating on the site but use a bayesian rating to determine the sorting. This is to prevent the scenario where a popular app with 100 ratings has an average rating of 4.9 and a new app with a single 5 star rating appears above it in the sort - arguably a worse scenario.

So, this bug as it stands is INVALID and I'm going to close it. The discussion about our rating display vs sorting being confusing could be had (although it's been had several times in the past), but that should happen with UX people and probably shouldn't take place in bugzilla.

The good news is, this is far less noticeable once there are more than single digit ratings on the apps.
