Hi, what's a SUPL Session ?

Hi, hm... SUPL is aid to fast Position Fix by GPS. We Change Question. Why A-GPS Settings exist on Settings -> Cellular & data?

This looks to be UX only, not functionality, if the setting exists and works - we're good and won't block on it's logical placement in the settings menus.

Kan-Ru, is AGPS something you're going to own? UI, too?

This looks like a UX question. The A-GPS settings in Settings is for the data connection that it will use. Just like MMS, A-GPS could use its own data connection.

We're currently discussing this with partners and considering creating a Location section, but it's not a top priority.

Hi, In our opinion, A-GPS settings should not be editable by the user, as it's likely to modify something that makes A-GPS stop working. It'd be nice to have them visible (just for troubleshouting, as commented in bug#837721). Thanks, David

(In reply to leo.bugzilla.gecko from comment #3) > Why A-GPS Settings exist on Settings -> Cellular & data? • because it requires operator-specific data; • because this is technically very close to other APN settings like Data and MMS; • and mostly, because UX asked me to do so :-) This could be moved to another section if we have an updated UX spec.

Looks like there are no more actionable items in this bug. Could I resolve it as WORKSFORME?

A related question: Are the following A-GPS settings (taken from gps.conf) subject to Geekphone's configuration of their Peak or is it hard coded in B2G in general? SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com SUPL_PORT=7276 (see http://forum.geeksphone.com/index.php?topic=5410.0 ) As a user I would not want to have this hardcoded in my open OS. It could be a suggestion in the settings, but imho it should really be customizable by the user.

So our partners can prepare their builds with this option disable by default?

Note that right now we can actually edit some A-GPS settings, especially the APN. It could be a good idea to be consistent: either remove the existing panel, either allow the user to change the supl server.

Or make it build time customizable. AFAIK some driver read the configuration from places not controlled by gecko thus not changeable from the UI.
Comment 17•11 years ago
|
||
This is the current situation, but maybe we could try to move a solution where the configuration always comes from gecko, whichever the driver is.

Could UX give some input on this feature?

Is this still relevant? If so, please put "feature" in the keyword text field so it can be prioritized. Thanks!

What's involved if one wants to add a new panel to the Settings app? If we are going to allow setting SUPL server and port in settings than we need 1) Change gecko's GPS provider impl to read from settings db 2) Make sure the devices that don't use our impl work accordantly 3) Add a new panel to the Settings app somewhere that only appears if the device has AGP

For settings panel it depends on if user does need configure these settings, or we could just put them into developer panel. We could include UX people into discussion if there's some user involvement here. If you think it's a still relevant feature, We could go on and discuss for details.

Putting into the developer panel for a starter seems a good idea to me.
