According to the specs load-download progress/activity indicators aren't spinners but horizontal bars. Please, follow this and use Building Blocks for a consistent experience.

This screenshot is not a wrong implementation, its just outdated

@pablo : Concerning your 2nd screenshot (wrong spinner when setting up account) I fixed the bug (see #869131).

1st attachment: Loading more messages and synchronization no longer display any type of progress other than spinning the refresh button icon.

2nd attachment: As AxelR notes, he corrected it in bug 869131.

I think the only other place we really use a spinner or show progress right now is during body display where we use an indeterminate spinner for the (currently) indeterminate process.  Bug 950236 is currently working to clean up our handling of failures/offline status there, so that might be a good place to chime in if we're doing anything wrong there.
