This page puts a bunch of animated GIFs over a YouTube video, and the result is a lot choppier and (seems to) use more CPU in FF than Chrome. One difference is that the video will be Flash for Firefox and h.264 <video> in Chrome, based on how YouTube's iframe embed works, which might be related. I'm not sure if this is (related to) bug 666449 or not.

Is it better if you enable media.windows-media-foundation.enabled in a nightly build ? This should enable h.264 playback in Firefox.

If I set that pref, the GIFs stop animating completely (only the first frame of the animation displays).
