User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:18.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/18.0 Build ID: 20130116073211 Steps to reproduce: - Open Dialog "Help -> About Firefox" - no update information is displayed, just the current version number and the release update channel information - click on "Check for update" to Check (!) for an available update (new Update is already known by update notification window) Actual results: 1. The update notification windows is already displayed multiple times. The dialog "About firefox" still does not know the next update. 2. Pressing the button "Check for Updates" find a new update, starts downloading the package, applys the update and request a restart. The restart of the browser applys the update every time. It's not possible to keep the current version (for IT guideline and software test reasons) if hit the button. Expected results: I expect a two step process: The check button should CHECK only and notify an available update and display an apply button. Beside that the firefox instance already dispaly an update notification and the about dialog does not know the new version. The apply process should download and install the update and request a browser restart. "Check for Updates" implies another behaviour as the current process is. A simple fix may be rename of the button to "Check and apply updates". A correct fix may be a two step process like other software does.

Please go to Tools/Options/Advanced/Update and check "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them"

The option is checked. As result I expect to select the update time explicitly and not by the "Check for updates" button. The attachment shows the process and the option panel.

That is behavior controlled by the Firefox UI in the about dialog and the current behavior was decided by Firefox UX when it was implemented in the about dialog. To change this the Firefox UI will need to be changed so moving from toolkit -> app update to Firefox. I am fairly certain there is another bug filed already for this.
Component: Application Update → General
Product: Toolkit → Firefox
