Details

Situation: Sync is currently down. Try Firefox->Sync now. This will pop up an error message after a while, consisting of a bar at the bottom of the Firefox windows with a button on it. The Firefox window will be *force-resized* so the message in this button can fit. This will likely be a lot wider than you want. I can't think of any circumstance in which Firefox should change the window size the user set, and certainly not to display an informational error message. I also can't think of any other circumstance in which I've seen Firefox forcefully changing its window size (barring fullscreening or JavaScript if it's been allowed to).
