compare with Bug 376997 Since SVG files are practically images, I would suggest that you render them in the center of the page and with the default grey background.

I've created https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/centersvg/ which achieves that. We can close this bug, if you don't consider working on this.

(In reply to Tobias Markus (:Tobbi) from comment #0) > Since SVG files are practically images When you view them directly, they're not necessarily "practically images" -- they can have things like scripts & iframes, they can dynamically tweak their size (or add/remove a viewBox to make them occupy the full window or not). Given that, I think the complexity & potential-for-weirdness would be high. I'm going to boldly WONTFIX this for the time being. (particularly given that it's something that can be done with an addon -- thanks for taking the initiative on that!)
