Linux is <1% of all users that download Firefox. Since the current download page doesn't have Linux instructions, this should not block the launch of the new-b page. No linux instructions on current page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-17.0.1&os=linux&lang=en-US If you are running Linux, you probably have a clue how to install, but it doesn't mean that we shouldn't do it. :)

(In reply to Chris More [:cmore] from comment #1) > Since the current download > page doesn't have Linux instructions, this should not block the launch of > the new-b page. > > No linux instructions on current page: > https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-17.0. > 1&os=linux&lang=en-US "No linux instructions" was IMHO way *better* than the misleading/incorrect instructions that the current page has. As I said in duplicate bug 887528 comment 2, the displayed instructions are wrong at every single step -- in particular: > 1. Start the process by clicking Run. There's no "Run" button on the download for Linux. (it's a tar.bz2, not anything runnable) So this starts off by telling the user to do something that's impossible. > 2. When prompted, drag the Firefox icon into the image of your > Applications folder. Click Run to launch the Mozilla Firefox setup wizard. > Then, just follow the steps (we've made the process as painless as possible). None of this applies. > 3. Drag the Firefox icon from the Applications folder into the dock. None of this applies either. If we could change to "no linux instructions", I'd be happy. :) Then later if we want to add some more info, great -- but in the meantime, let's please stop giving Linux users Mac instructions.

So... reopening Bug 887528 and removing non-linux instructions first.

(In reply to Daniel Holbert [:dholbert] from comment #8) > The /new page gives the same mac instructions quoted in comment 4, on linux. Got it. I swear we had this QA's and verified before and we showed no instructions for linux user agents. Thanks for testing this!

So I have reopened Bug 887528 and sent a pull request to hide the instructions: https://github.com/mozilla/bedrock/pull/1001
