When opening RSS feeds with a Twitter entry the url https://r.twimg.com/jot is opened in the browser. This is anoying in the leaset as the breowser is not the centre of attention when reading Feeds in Thunderbird. The only observation so far is that any page that has a Twitter logo on it. opens this URL. this URL http://www.stockjournal.com.au/news/nationalrural/agribusiness/general-news/maccas-trials-milk-sales/2644595.aspx?src=rss will demonstrate the activity.
The same thing is happening to me. This web feed from nbcnews.com is opening up wpcomwordpress.com when i read the feed in Thunderbird. http://olympictalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/05/lindsey-vonn-out-for-season-expected-back-before-sochi/related This has been happening for the last few days. I'm using v 17.0.2 of Thunderbird. I've also had the same website open as Matt above with another feed story.
feeds allow javascript, so the page can do some undesirable things, and Tb doesn't have the same abilities to block them as does Fx. you could set the javascript pref to false.
