###!!! ASSERTION: Plugin windows must not be toplevel: '!objectFrame->mWidget || objectFrame->mWidget->GetParent()', file layout/generic/nsObjectFrame.cpp, line 2194

(On Mac OS X 10.8, with the "Java Plugin" shim but without Java.)

What does this mean?
Priority: -- → P3
    File: JavaAppletPlugin.plugin
    Version: 14.3.0
    State: Disabled
Displays Java applet content, or a placeholder if Java is not installed.

If you click the "Missing Plug-in" placeholder displayed by JavaAppletPlugin.plugin, Mac OS X offers to install Java for you.

I think it's the default state for Mac OS X 10.8.

Thanks for the info.

Yes, it is. And also (I think) for OS X 10.7.

Unfortunately you need to do a clean re-install of the OS to get back to this state if you've installed Java (either from Apple or from Oracle).
Resolving as wont fix, plugin support deprecated in Firefox 85.
