If you have a tab open and you Crtl-L, which will show you the navigation bar, and then use the gesture that should show the tab strip, you simply go back to the focus tab in full view. This happens whether you have one or more tabs open, and it is a little confusing because my intention was to open the tab strip so I could select some other tab.
I don't know if it is a defect or a change, but I'll place it as a defect for now.

This is tricky, because focusing the url bar causes the Firefox Start screen to appear (bug 837396), and the edge-swipe gesture is one of the only ways to "escape" from that screen and get back to the current tab.

Currently in the start/autocomplete screen: the first swipe returns to the web page, and a second swipe displays the tab/context bars.

We could reverse that, so the first swipe would show the tab/context bars, and the second swipe would return to the web page.

Or we could do both at once, so a single swipe would return to the web page *and* show the tab and context bars.

After the new autocomplete popup work done on bug 883390, pressing CTRL+L will not show the start screen anymore and a swipe from the top will show the tab bar as expected.
