t.co links download a small webpage and then redirects using window.location

On mobile this is a bit painful because downloading a page and executing some JS takes a noticeable amount of time. We tested sending twitter an "unknown" UA for t.co links which results in an HTTP 301 redirect. This results in getting to the final page much faster.

Can we ask twitter to switch to 301 redirects? Will this break them in some way?
Would be good to find out which source we are and why: https://dev.twitter.com/docs/tco-redirection-behavior

Mark, you previously spoke with Twitter about this bug. Can you please summarize the conversation. Is there anything that we can do about this issue or should we resolve this bug as won't fix?

See bug 838332 for more information. Comment 12 in particular.

This smells like a WONTFIX - on behalf of Twitter, that is.
(And *yikes* what hacks you're working on over in that bug :-o. Oh well..)
