84144 - [RFE] Roaming: Store mail settings to mail server

Even if Mozilla gets roaming support to store settings to LDAP, WWW or ICAP
server, those services may not always be available for the user. However, the
mail server is always available for the mail client.

Therefore it would be really great, if all the mail account related data
(filters, address books, etc.) not necessary to get a connection to a server
would get stored into the mail server.

At least for the IMAP servers this should be not too difficult to implement.
Pine already has support for a similar feature, see
http://www.washington.edu/pine/tech-notes/low-level.html#remote-config

This bug is about storing the mail related settings to a mail server. The same
method might be used for other Mozilla settings, too. However, having the
browser query a mail server might not always be desirable. Maybe there should be
backends for storing settings into LDAP, WWW, ICAP, IMAP, POP, ... and UI for
selecting which parts of the application settings get stored into what
repository. Storing browser settings into a server is discussed in bug 17048:

It think this is basically a dup of my bug #78858.

It tries not to be. As you see, bug 78858 is marked as a dependancy of this,
because there you say that a separate RFE should be submitted for storing
address books to IMAP. This bug is for that and the other mail related settings
in general. Sub-bugs for particular settings can be submitted if needed, once
identified.
