Testing on 2013-02-22 using Nightly built from http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/885cde564ff3

Whenever I am on a page in Metro mode and I try to "View on Desktop" I prompted to open a new instance of Firefox, so that if try to open a second page on desktop and it is already open, I will get the error message telling me that Firefox is already running.

To reproduce (make sure you remove all Firefox versions first):
1. Install Firefox (nightly) and run it
2. Make it your default browser when prompted
3. Close the desktop browser
4. Go to the start page and open the Nightly tile to open Firefox in Metro mode
5. Visit any page like the "about us" in the bookmarks. Let it load.
6. Swipe up from the bottom to bring up the app bar
7. Select the "View on Desktop" (it should open Firefox in desktop mode).
8. Go back to Firefox in Metro mode and open a different page and "View on Desktop"

Expected: A new tab with the page that I sent to desktop

Actual: A message saying "Firefox is already running, but it's not responding..."

If you have your desktop Firefox setup with multiple profiles you get prompted to select a profile before you are presented with the same message as above.

I may have moz_no_remote=1 as an environment variable.
Asa sees the right behavior, so I haven't re-opened bug 831938, but I can reproduce it consistently.

If you have this environment variable set, then I think you are seeing expected behavior. Can you double-check whether it is set or not?

This was indeed the case. After removing the environment variable, the behavior is what I expected.
