crash in accout setup: as the wizard appears, or cancelling setup

found this using comm trunk bits 2001.06.07.09 on winNT and 2001.06.07.08 on Mac
OS 9.0x. [oddly, have yet to repro this on linux.] the tricky thing is that this
crash doesn't *always* --maybe about half the time.
anyhow, a recipe:
1. launch a profile for which a mailnews accound has *not* been setup --can be
an existing or new profile.
2. from the browser window, select the Tasks > Mail menu item. when the acct
setup wizard appears at this point, i sometimes get a crash. [if not, go to the
next step.]
3. if the account wizard appears, cancel out of it. sometimes the crashes occur
at this point.
another thing to note [which esther mentioned to me], is that with the profiles
i tested here, i had explicitly *cancelled* activation upon startup.
winNT, talkback #31456766: no mail acct exists, modern, trunk bits; crashes when
acct setup wizard appears

could this be related to [or, even a dup of] bug 84084? i'm not positive if it's
a dup, since the traces in 84084 are all different...
don't seem to see this crash with the branch builds so far...

this sounds like the bug that we already found a work around for.
the problem is the mailnews start page has a redirect and that messes up our timers.
racham, has that been checked in? or will that be fixed on the netcenter side?

This appears to be a dupe of bug# 84084 (which is now being tracked using
Bugscape# 6051). Bhuvan, is it ok to mark this a dupe?
If you can't reproduce the bug on Mac, please do mark this asdup. Lastely we
have seen couple of bugs with this nature as I got delayed in checking inthe
work around. I checked in the workaround on Friday. So, the latest build should
not crash for that reason. If it crahses even now, then we have a new problem.

bhuvan, would the mac traces i included above be indicative of bug 84084, or
different? i had assumed that since i was going through similar tasks, that the
cause of the crash on mac would be the same as on win32...but wasn't sure.

no, cannot seem to repro this on either mac [2001.06.18.08] or winnt
[2001.06.18.09] comm bits.
feel free to mark as either a dup of 84084, or wfm.
