Details

Set the address book to use an LDAP server (in this case, the server is a Novell 5 NDS/LDAP server). Select New Message. In the To: field, type a partial name that matches one or more names in the LDAP server. Wait for the dialog to drop down with a list of matches. Select a match by clicking on it. The match will now be shown in the To field. Press ENTER to move to the next address, or click on the next address. The address will be replaced with the partially typed string + the local default mail domain.

I found out that if you remove the "Local address book" inside preference/addressing you actually won't get undone. But it's annoying not having the local address book ...
