Steps to reproduce:

Try filtering and fast cut filter


Actual results:

Failure to cut fast filter

when I type a search term in the quick filter, select and short word, the filter remains active and the button (X) is inactive.

This does not happen when I type a word and delete with backspace


Expected results:

should remove the filter and not get empty results

does this and bug 846870 happen if you have started thunderbird in safe mode per http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode  ??

STR

1 type "foo123" into quickfilter bar input box (and have no matching messages)
2 select "foo123" text in quickfilter, then Ctrl+X (or Shift+Del) to cut it out (so that quickfilter textbox is now empty)

Actual result

- message list with search results is *not* updated, still showing the filtered result set (no results) as if "foo123" filter was still there
- grey [x] button to remove filter words is still shown, but there are no filter words any more, and clicking the button has no effect
- difficult for the user to remove the invisible filter (workarounds: press Enter; press ESC; type something and remove with backspace)
- also fails to update for cutting parts of filterword(s) (first filter for "foobar", then Ctrl+X to cut "bar" - results not updated to show matches for "foo")

Expected result

when a filter word is removed (or shortened) from quickfilter (regardless of the method used), should update the result set in message list

This bug:

fails on TB 17.0.6
works on TB 24.0a1 (2013-05-27)

so apparently something along the way has fixed this.
I'll check the other one later.

I checked my STR in bug 846870 and same applies: fails on TB17, wfm on Trunk.
So whatever fixed this, we don't know, but trunk matters -> wfm
