User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:18.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/18.0
Build ID: 20130201065344
Steps to reproduce:
Environment: Windows XP and Windows 7.
Click on hypertext link in email in Thunderbird 17.0.3.
Firefox 18.0.2 is default browser and already running.
Actual results:
Link never opened. Pop up appears,
'Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.'
Expected results:
Link should have a opened a new tab in Firefox.
If Firefox is not already running then the link is opened in a new Firefox window.
If I run Thunderbird 2.0.0.24 then the link is opened in a new tab in an already running Firefox as expected.
I just started having pretty much the same problem after upgrading to tbird 24.2.0. Clicking on a link in an email should open that URL in firefox, but fails to do so. Also, right-clicking on the link in an email and then clicking on "Open link in browser" similarly fails to open the link in the browser (ff).
network.protocol-handler.app.http (and also ...https) in tbird's about:config specifies the executable /usr/lib/thunderbird/open-browser.sh and running the latter at the CLI with a URL as an arg does work as expected: the spec'd URL is loaded into firefox. So I suspect a bug in tbird.
Perhaps I should have mentioned above that the system in question is running CentOS 5.10.
I found today a fix or, depending on your definition, a work-around. See http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2013-December/139325.html.
