Details
"firefox-dev" is a new mailing list intended to replace mozilla.dev.apps.firefox. As such, we should update the forums page to replace mentions of m.d.a.f with references to firefox-dev (more info at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/firefox-dev).
However, the page as it is doesn't really acknowledge the existence of mailing-list only forums. firefox-dev is not a newsgroup/google group/mailing list combination - it only supports posting via the mailing list, with read-only web and nntp archives. So perhaps we'll need to make further edits to clarify the new state of things?

It's right there, and has been for about a week :-) Directly under mozilla.dev.apps.firefox (given that I seem to remember you said the two are running in parallel for a while).

Ha, didn't notice that! I'd like to gradually deprecate m.d.a.f, so removing it completely from that page (i.e. not directing new people to it) seems like a good first step.

I haven't looked at it recently, but I believe this script reads from the Mozilla.* newsgroups on news.mozilla.org (which, is indirectly controlled by us, via Giganews).
I have marked this list as Not Advertised, which takes it off the lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/ page. I don't believe that will remove it from the script that generates m.o/about/forums/ , however.
As part of the winding down process, we could turn off NNTP replication for this list, which will make it disappear from newsgroup subscribers, Google Groups and the m.o/about/forums/ , but the mailing list itself would function in the interim. But maybe that will create more headaches than it will help?

I'm confused why this is assigned to IT. Seems like a gerv thing to me.

Ah, didn't know this was automated.

I don't think we want to do this now. If it's too complicated to hide it from the page, we can just leave it until we shut down mdaf entirely I guess.

Reed points out that this page seems to just be generated from http://viewvc.svn.mozilla.org/vc/projects/mozilla.org/trunk/about/forums/raw-ng-list.txt?view=co and updated manually.
Can't we just remove mdaf from that (and re-run the commit script in that directory)?

Yes, we can, and that's exactly how I planned to fix this bug. :-) However, I've just had a new baby; give me a little time :-)

I'm pretty sad and slightly disturbed that mdaf is being shut down entirely. Not even the pretty closed up and mostly development-dead Thunderbird did that.

It's not being shut down yet, but it is being deprecated. If you have specific concerns, I'd be happy to discuss them directly. Send me email?
