The bold tag doesn't seem to have an effect on Japanese characters in the latest builds (60904 and upward). Regardless of the Japanese page I visit, text with the tag does not show up boldfaced. Only Latin-1 characters appear boldfaced. Here are some pages to test: http://lycos.co.jp http://home.netscape.com/ja/ http://google.co.jp I am using a German Win 98SE operating system with a US build, but I have seen the same problem on a US OS and a Japanese browser as well.

Changed QA contact to ylong@netscape.com and added intl keyword. Lynn, I do not see this problem. Would you attached the screen shot of what you see? Thanks.

OK. I figured out the problem. When I installed the Japanese font that came with the build, the browser automatically changed the font in browser preferences to MS Gothic and the checkbox for "Allow other fonts in document" was enabled. After I disabled this checkbox, I was able to see boldfaced Japanese text. Another strange thing is that I cannot select any fonts other than MS Gothic for Japanese, even though Bitstream is installed on my system.
I used NS6.1 PR1 US and did not see the problem, the option "Allow documents to use other fonts" was on. Please file a separate bug for the bitstream font issue.
I actually found out that bitstream wasn't on my system at the time. I don't think this should have affected the boldface issue, though. I am on a German Win 98 SE operating system. Every time I install the Japanese build (fresh install), I do not see boldface Japanese characters until I uncheck the box in Preferences.
Does German Win 98 SE have Japanese fonts?
It did not, that's why I used the IME fonts that downloaded with the Netscape 6.1 browser so that I would have MS Gothic on my system.
Windows font issue, reassign to yokoyama, cc to shanjian.

could this related to 76848?
Bold works in the native Japanese OS. It may be something to do with the font which comes with GlobalIME.

We can't reproduce this bug anymore. (Verified with Jonathan Rubin, iQA, with today's trunk build in his English OS) I believe the patch I checked in to the trunk for 76848 fixed this bug. Marking WORKSFORME and making 76848 as a depend.

Verified the fixed on 07-11 trunk build. Since it has not been checked into branch, I still can see it on 07-13 branch build / Win98En and WinNT-En with Japanese font. (test page http://www.yahoo.co.jp) However, even on branch build, if you follow by the steps below, then you will see the boldface: 1. Go http://www.yahoo.co.jp - if you using a new profile, you won't see the boldface characters now. 2. Edit | Preferences | Font, select Japanese. If you have Japanese font installed, then you will see the font will be picked up. 3. Close "OK" to close the preferences. Result: You will see the boldface characters now. I'm going to mark it as verified now. But Frank or Montse, do we need put it into our release note?

This was not fixed in 7-21-00-0.9.2 branch build. This was fixed in 0.9.3 branch build. I can verify this in 8-7-0.9.3 branch build.
Since this is reproduciable in 0.9.2 branch, I reopen this and put topembed keyword.

Installer may have some problem. It did not install the right files. After I installed it by N6SetupB.exe, I got the right files. I am testing this, so I changed this as fixed.
