As of VS 2012 SP1, you can build binaries that run on Windows XP again: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/vcblog/archive/2012/10/08/10357555.aspx We should look into updating our toolchain for official builds.
Didn't we test that already and observed that it was using more memory than 2010, making us closer to OOM?
