I own both a Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 and I use Firefox on both devices. I like the UI on the tablet better, but I understand that it does not work on the phone in portrait mode. However, it think it would still work great in landscape mode.

The tablet UI shows the back (and forward) and reload buttons. Both are hidden inside the menu on the phone UI. To show more of the page title. However, in landscape mode there is much more room (Nexus 7 portrait with is exactly the same as Galaxy Nexus landscape width... plus the Galaxy Nexus has a higher resolution).

The idea of changing the UI from landscape to portrait may confuse some but it is very common on Android: actions are commonly moved from the menu (overflow menu) to the toolbar if there is room. It would be similar in this case.
This doesn't really fit in with our plans with regard to UX. However, this would make for a pretty cool add-on, I think.

I have thought about this some more and found that this would probably not work very well on any hardware smaller than the GNex (~4.7")...

Are those plans public btw? If so, where can I find them?

Would this be possible?
No longer relevant with Photon theme.
