Details

Sharing from the Twitter app on Android to Firefox Sync causes tabs with errors to be opened on the desktop. This may be a bug in Twitter, but it seems like this could be handled much better.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Click share on any tweet in Twitter on Android
2. Pick Firefox Sync as destination sending to desktop Firefox
3. Sync on desktop

Here is an example of the data this sends:

At no point is any error raised aside from the tab on the desktop showing "address isn't valid". I had to fish this message out of the success log for sync.

It seems that an error should be raised on Android. Or if not there, then perhaps the tab could open to an error message that displays the content that was sent? Or perhaps the sharing code could attempt to extract a uri out of the message (although this is likely to cause more confusion as it's perhaps not the URI they intended to share).

Perhaps Firefox sync is overzealous in registering to accept these shares in the first place?
I suspect this is a duplicate of bug 799615, which will be fixed in Fx21 (about to hit beta next week).
I can confirm that the fix for bug 799615 fixes my issue. I just tested the nightly.
