some scripts, such as replace_corrupted_hg_master, do a "developer clone" of repositories. This is of no value in vcs-sync land, and can lead to confusion when diagnosing issues.

All clone commands should be updated to us the "-U" ("--noupdate") option for hg, and the "--bare" option for git.
