Description:
At Mozilla, we believe that learning happens over the course of a lifetime and frequently in informal settings. Yet many of these experiential and lifelong learnings are not being adequately captured. Digital badges can help capture some of these. Yet in order for them to really deliver results--including skill sharing and new employment opportunities--we need a shared and open infrastructure that allows badge systems from various environments to be interoperable in a badges "economy."
Under a grant from the MacArthur Foundation, Mozilla has built the Open Badges Infrastructure, which is currently in public beta and makes it possible for badges from different communities to be interoperable and shareable across the web. More than 700 organizations--ranging from formal and informal educational institutions; multinational corporations; industry associations; non-profits; and groups interested in professional development--have issued more than 60K open badges since our public beta launched last year. We'll talk about ways that open badges might help further the work of the QA team, recognize its contributors, and help form a cohesive engagement system.
