Details
[sdeckelmann@socorro1.stage.db.phx1 ~]$ sudo su - postgres
-bash-4.1$
was this the last time I logged in:
[postgres@socorro1 9.2]$
Did we lose a bashrc or something for the postgres user?

I have corrected the bash prompt and environment:
[root@socorro1.dev.db.phx1 ~]# su - postgres
[postgres@socorro1.dev.db.phx1 ~]$ echo $PATH
/usr/pgsql-9.2/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin
[postgres@socorro1.dev.db.phx1 ~]$ echo $PGDATA
/pgdata/9.2/data
[postgres@socorro1.dev.db.phx1 ~]$
