Any suggestions for what would be a good key or keys for this?
Summary: Keyboard shortcut for channel switching → [RFE] Keyboard shortcut for channel switching
accel+arrows would be nice, accel+tab might be more traditional.

Wouldn't the accel+tab combos be grabbed by Windows or the Window Manager?
Keywords: access
no, on windows accel is ctrl. although for some reason i said accel+arrows i might have meant alt+arrows. ctrl+arrows/alt+arrows *shrug-get user feedback*, ctrl+tab ...

The function keys already do this. F1 goes to the first channel, F3 to the third, etc. I would like to add ctr-tab and ctrl-shift-tab to switch next/previous.

There should also be a way to access the other panes (the nick list and the generated HTML) using the keyboard. How about using alt+left and alt+right (back and forward in the browser) for switching channels and accel+tab for switching panes?

I'd like to see this (at least the ctrl-tab to change views portion) make it into 0.8.5. Ctrl-tab is the standard way to change tabs, so I'm not going to make it switch to the userlist, but maybe shift-tab could do that.

It's ctrl+tab, rather than accel+tab, because on Mac Cmd+Tab switches apps. It was decided that Ctrl+Tab would be the key for Mac. We also use [shift]+F6 as an alternative keybinding, since that also works in Windows programs such as IE. This conveniently gives another way to do the same thing on those platforms that steal Ctrl+Tab from us (KDE). Finally, when there is a tabbed view (tabset), Ctrl+PgUp and Ctrl+PgDn are used to change which tab is visible. Anyway, the keys that need to be supported in this bug are: Ctrl+[shift]+Tab [shift]+F6

What? This bug is about changing active tabs, which I have always known to be Ctrl-Tab. That is this about Ctrl-PgUp switching tabs? And if Ctrl-PgUp is supposed to switch tabs, then what is Ctrl-Tab/F6 supposed to do?

Ctrl+Tab and F6 navigate through the various frames on a page, in mail/news, etc. Using that to access the userlist would be standard with its use in the other parts of the app. Using Ctrl+PgUp/PgDn to switch tabs would be consistent with tabbed browsing.
