Summary: FF 20.xx.xx and Session manager → Session manager
Summary: Session manager → Non-private session window disappears when restoring previous session from private session window
How did you restore a session from the private window? Do you have an add-on that adds the Sessions item to the Tools menu? Firefox doesn't normally allow restoring sessions from private windows.
Hi Ioana Budnar, Thanks for reply, Yes for session manager I am using add on Session Manager 0.7.9.6 by Michael Kraft I saved 4 sites as one default session, in normal mode it works fine, but when I go for private browsing, and call this default session, the main window closes, ( it supposed to be still available) if I don't call session manager, then both main and private window works fine. Let me know if any more information required, Regards Paddy To explain some more about problem, please read below, thanks for patience I have FF installed with add on plugin for session manager Session Manager 0.7.9.6 by Michael Kraft Case 1: >Open Firefox, open one ore more websites in different tabs >Open new private browsing, >in private browsing open some sites in different tabs, still previous Normal browsing window available and close private window, still I can able continue to use normal window. Case 2: >Open Firefox, open one ore more websites in different tabs >Open new private browsing, >in private browsing ask for saved session recall, it recalls saved websites and can work in private window, but main (normal window) disappears, and after I finish this private session, close it and open FF again, then it says previous session crashed and it shows some previous sessions, if your suggestion is not to use addon, is there any facility in FF 20.0. for saving session? and recall when ever required! Thank you, Paddy

I want you to tell me what all you saved in your session(which windows were open and how many tabs in each window). I tried to reproduce the bug on Windows 7, but no such thing is happening. What I did was this- 1.open ff, open new private window. 2.open some tabs in private window and save the session. 3.reopen ff, open private window, load the previously saved session. Results- I got a blank page tab in private window and all other tabs in main window. No window closed.
Hi Aish, For my comparability I saved Google, Gmail, Yahoo, and one more site as session and named as "Default 1" (Using add on "session manager"), now 1) I open FF, and open some 2 or more sites in different tabs 2) Open new private window 3) In private window, I chosen to recall of session "Default 1" 4) immediately the first window which I opened will close automatically, (I expect still it should be in open condition, because it happens if I dont recall session and simply open new tabs and open as many sites I wish) 5) It happens with only recall session through session manager. I tried it on even my other PC which is WinXP SP3 with ff V20.0.1 also issue is same.
Padmanabham Hamsa, Thats probably because your session is saved as 1 window. And when you open this session in private window(or conversely in the main window) then your other window closes. Try out this- open 2 windows and open some tabs in them and save the session. Next load this session in your private window. Check if the same error occurs again or not ~Regards Aish
Hi, I tried same but still problem persists, I think nothing to do with Mozilla Firefox, I think its issue with Session Manager 0.7.9.6 by Michael Kraft It was done when FF was able to show either private or normal window option, Now FF improved this feature and both private and non private windows we can have at a time, I think Session manager has to be changed. may be we can request FF to have facility to save multiple tabs as session and recall when ever required. or wait for good session manager from 3rd party. Thank you all for suggestions Regards Paddy
I tried this on ff nightly build. Its ok there. Just to confirm- Tell me the description of the session which you are trying to open. For doing that open session manager->load session->click on your session->description will be shown below as- windows 1 tab1 tab2
I think when FF was version 17, I added session manager and made following links as one session and named as "default 0" Tab1:- www.google.co.in Tab2:- www.gmail.com Tab3:- http://mail.yahoo.com Tab4:- http://telugu.andhraheadlines.com/default.aspx later FF went through up gradations, now it is 20.0.1. in this version we have feature having normal window, we can also have private window and operate both parallel, Now coming to problem: I open FF and it opens with my startup webpage (google.com) then I asked for private window, in private window I asked for above saved "default 0" session. then it gives all 4 saved sites in 4 tabs of private window, but it kills the originating window which is with "google.com" I think when we recall saved session through session manager, in private window, that closing our originating window from where we opened "new private window" hope I am able to explain problem. Thanks a lot, Regards Paddy
You are not getting my point. Check my comment #6 again. Your session saves currently opened tabs, but it saves the windows also, and when you reload your session, it will override whatever you have opened. So if you have both main window and private window open, and your session has only 1 window, loading this session will retain only 1 window. Try checking "Append to session" option in session manager dialog box before loading your session. And did you tried out what I told you in comment #6? ~Regards Aish
