The likely issue (other than the currency in the range U+20BB to U+20CF) is that the fonts on the device don't have glyphs for these codepoints. But most of the grey boxes in the currency view (U+20BB to U+20CF) aren't assigned codepoints in Unicode. Though U+20BA (which is a gray box) is assigned (maybe recently?) as the Turkish Lira sign.
U+20BA is the most recently assigned Unicode codepoint there is, from version 6.2.0 released in September 2012. See http://www.unicode.org/Public/UNIDATA/DerivedAge.txt
(In reply to David Baron [:dbaron] (don't cc:, use needinfo? instead) from comment #9) > The likely issue (other than the currency in the range U+20BB to U+20CF) is > that the fonts on the device don't have glyphs for these codepoints. Maybe we should add something like a single face of DejaVu Sans as a "fallback" font that would provide glyphs for a large number of the less-common Unicode characters that are not covered by the main fonts on the device.
Closing as we are not working on Firefox OS anymore.
