Does it also hang in the Firefox safemode ? http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode
You can make the crash reporter run when Firefox is hung. For that, kill the process with -ILL — either: killall -ILL firefox or kill -ILL <Firefox process ID>
