Would this end up affecting calendar app?
My concern is that the calendar app should also be able to scroll back to see a past event to duplicate it or look up info off a past event as a use case.

It will be hard to detect what is the last year if the device is not connected and get correct time ever.
I don't think its that useful since most of time 'set automatically' is sufficient for users.
