(In reply to Erica Sackin from comment #1) Comments inline ... Launch date/Item title: ASAP (ideally in the next week to announce I'm joining. Worth knowing that I'm formally starting June 3rd.) What is the noun to describe this? (launch, product, new thing, event, > etc) Launch > > 2-sentence description: [Today] we are launching the Mozilla Science Lab, a program dedicated to building skills, tools and practices for resarchers to help make the web work for science. Kaitlin Thaney, formerly of Digital Science and Creative Commons, will be serving as the lab's Director. > > Bugzilla Bug Link: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=867669 > > Primary Contact/Project Manager: Kaitlin Thaney, David Ascher > > Important Dates (launch date, end date, etc): - Announcement date: ASAP (this can come before June 3, IMO). - Launch date / KT start date: June 3, 2013 > Overview: launching a new program area to explore opportunities to help make open research more efficient, support innovation, and help increase digital literacy through skills training and outreach. > > Goal/Why: > > Audience: > > Call to Action/What do you want people to do?: > > Messaging link: n/a > > Website/presence/URL: n/a > > Comms Help needed: y > > Graphic Design: y (need logo / website) > > Website: n/a > > Messaging: > > Branding: n/a > > Writing: n/a > > Promotion: y > > Social Media: y > > Press outreach: y > > Email List: -- > > Webmaker Blog: y > > Mozilla Blog: > > Mozilla Homepage: > > Firefox Snippet: > > Other: > > Webmaker project attached? y > > Notes: > > Status:
Thanks! I'll set up a kickoff meeting. In the meantime we should use this etherpad for planning: https://mofocomms.etherpad.mozilla.org/ScienceLabsLaunch

ALso FYI, June 3 isn't a realistic launch date. Let's reassess when we meet to discuss the workplan.
Thanks, Erica! I know June 3 is soon, but it'd be useful to be able to at least let others know this is going to launch and I'm joining. We have an event on June 20 at the White House that we've got a slot to speak publicly about the project at, so even if the website and things aren't wholly baked, saying that it's in existence would be needed. Apologies for what seems like a rush. I'd hoped this was being carried forward following solidifying the offer back in March, and need to announce where I'm going / unveil this for good as lots of folks are poking around. :) Can chat more about it on the call. Might be able to compromise? Thanks again!
Also, if it looks like the week of June 20th is more reasonable, this is the DC event I've been offered a speaking slot at: http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2013/05/07/seeking-outstanding-open-science-champions-change
Kickoff meeting for this tentatively scheduled for May 14.

Looks great! One minor edit - it's a profile in the Telegraph (part of their "Women to Watch" / Wonder Women series. I sent her the update on the launch date, but she's on holiday, so it may still go live w/c June 17.
