868457 - File new bookmarks in a place that can be easily found

When you click the star to create a bookmark you are not told where that bookmark lives. If you then check the bookmarks menu you will not see your newly created bookmark. It can appear that the feature does not work. 

If, for example, we file new bookmarks in the bookmarks menu instead of unsorted bookmarks, a quick check of the bookmarks menu will reveal the thing you have just bookmarked. I'm sure there are many solutions to this problem, this is just an example.

I've been told (for 2 years now) that this is a known problem and that an overhaul of the bookmarks system is long overdue. We should do something - even if it's not ideal and short lived - to correct this issue sooner rather than later.

That's bad Advice concerning something elementary such Bookmarking UX wrt Users using the current Design for half a Decade now, then implementing "something" (just for the Sake of Changing?) for x Releases and waiting for another "Big Rewrite" and then getting used to some new UX again.

How about something pragmatic and fixing Bug 423617?
Or expose/advertise the "Unsorted Folder" (including renaming it?) in the default UI?

No, I'd never ask for a change for the sake of change. I work on support where we see that even changes for good reasons lead to a certain amount of unhappy people who have questions about the new thing. My point is that if you create a bookmark under the current system, it isn't immediately obvious where that bookmark is stored or how to retrieve it. We should do something about that. It can be the first part of a larger rewrite.

That could work though it would break the one-click design decision that Faaborg mentions.

That's sounds pretty similar to what I'm suggesting.

Everything is now bookmarked to the "Other Bookmarks" folder, and we open that when doing "Show All Bookmarks". The folder is also shown on the Star UI, so I think this is WFM.

There is bug 1412263 on making the default location configurable, and bug 1432604 for using the last-used location.
