With bug 860146 We can draw the borders of layers so as to see how a web page is layered. This feature uses the new Compositor API, so at the moment it only works with OMTC. OMTC is only enabled by default on FirefoxOS and Firefox for Android. It can also be activated on Linux and Mac with a few prefs and environment variable but it's not stable there. In order to support this pref on more platforms we can port more platforms to OMTC, and/or make it so non-OMTC setups use the new Compositor API (maybe a more realistic short-term goal?).
OMTC is now enabled by default on Linux in nightly, so all platforms can use layer borders.
