The build was done with

The debug build is starting up fine. So I assume it's an optimizer issue 
(although I give no special optimization flags)

dr, can you take a look at this and see if there's anything we can do to 
bulletproof the tree code where's it's crashing? Short of getting one of these 
boxes, that's about all we can do.

This is not true any more - I think we can close this bug. Since some days it's 
working fine. I dunno what has been changed but it's working.
