signed certificate now installed on load balancer in front of stackato router. i have also removed the wildcard (*.pass) entry in DNS in favour of explicitly defining them.

*.paas became:

  api.paas
  login.paas

final note, in case someone goes looking down the road, i followed these instructions to configure the ssl certificate with stackato:

  http://docs.stackato.com/server/aok.html#ssl-certificate

stackato@paas:~$ kato config set cloud_controller aok/ca_file /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
WARNING: Assumed type string
/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
stackato@paas:~$ kato restart controller
-----> Stopping roles
role controller stopping...                ok
-----> Starting roles
role controller starting...                ok
