If we want to display the popup in the origin app (SMS), we will need to wait to Bug 832936.

Is that what you are proposing?

Sorry Alberto for change my opinion.

I discussed this issue with our engineer.
Our engineer said that "we don't think this is the correct way to handle this in origin.
Even if we modify SMS or Email application,
any other application also can still invoke contact select activity and there the issue will still be present."
So, we want to fix this issue in contact application side.

Please let us know your opinion.

The point is that I don't think showing a popup over the "Select Contact" screen is a bad behaviour. We have 2 options:

1.- The current implementation (showing the Contacts app through an activity, and show the popup if no contacts)

2.- Not showing the "Add to existing" button in the origin app if no contacts in the DB.

For the second option, we need Bug 832936, but I agree that even if we implement that in some origin apps, we will still need to show the popup for the first case. What is the exact issue with current implementation? A popup is meant to be shown in top of other screen. We don't know if we need to show the popup until we have requested the contacts to the DB...

Please, could you please elaborate the issue and what would be the correct behaviour?

Showing the pop-up over the “select contact” screen is not the issue. When the pop-up is shown there is a select contact screen with empty contacts in the middle of the pop-up.
Existing Scenario: When we select a contact icon from the message screen, we are getting a pop-up ->showing Select Contact screen with empty contacts -> again showing the pop-up.
Expected Scenario: When we select a contact icon in message screen, we should get a pop-up directly without appearing “Select Contact” screen (with empty contacts) in the middle of the pop-up.

There is no movement on this bug for nearly two months so requesting QA to test if it is still valid
