Details
The current feature offered by addon-page will be soon dropped from the SDK (see bug 873102).
To continue to delivering similar capability, it would be nice to extend tabs.open functionality to enable to specify which elements must be hidden or showed on the new tab. Elements can be, at least:
* Awesome bar
* Search bar
* Bookmarks tool-bar
For example:
tabs.open({elements: ["Awesome Bar", "Search Bar"]}); will show only the Awesome and Search bars.
or
tabs.open({elements: "none"}); => All elements are hidden

Due to some upcoming changes in how the Firefox UI works, we aren't going to take this bug as it will no longer make sense with Firefox 25, and we'd have to remove the work anyway. If you're curious, similar pages in Firefox such as the addon manager are also being affected and will regain location bars.
